To answer “What are you looking for in your next role?”, name two or three professional priorities, explain why they matter, and connect them to the role you are interviewing for. The answer should show fit, not a long list of demands.
Growth answer: “I’m looking for a role where I can take more ownership, keep building my problem-solving skills, and work on projects where the impact is visible. This role stood out because it combines customer understanding with practical execution.”
Career change answer: “I’m looking for a role where I can use my past experience in a more focused direction. I want to bring my communication and operations background into a team where those skills can help solve clearer business problems.”
They want to know whether your goals, expectations, and motivations fit the role they are hiring for.
You can, but it is usually better to lead with role fit, contribution, and growth before discussing logistics.
Specific enough to match the role, but not so narrow that you sound inflexible.
